Captain Kirk & Ben Folds Rockin' The Suburbs

Geoff Trainor

Ben Folds Captain of the Starship EnterpriseYou know, being a leader in the music blog community, Mocking Music receives a lot of e-mail. These e-mails range from exciting band news to death threats from those jealous of our prestige.

It's because of all the e-mails that I overlooked this sitting in our inbox. We recently received an e-mail from Ben Folds. You other bloggers may have gotten the cheap newsletter version, but we here at Mocking Music got Ben himself, or B-Foo as he wishes to be called (although only his closest friends may identify him as such).

"Hey guys,

B-Foo here with some exciting news. On May 16th the soundtrack for Over the Hedge will be released, which I have greatly contributed to. You may notice the snazzy version of Rockin' The Suburbs featuring Willi-Shat. It has some re-worked lyrics. I knew you guys wouldn't want to pass up on something like that, so I thought I'd give you the heads up before my official newsletter reports the news.

P.S. I'm a little pissed you guys didn't include The Bens in that side-project post. What is up with that?"

Unfortunately, I hadn't noticed the e-mail amongst our ever increasing inbox. Sorry B-Foo, but you aren't the only one that's got inside contact with Mocking Music. So, because I missed it I was unable to report the news before the official newsletter was sent out.

Even late, this is interesting news and the song with Shatner is actually pretty awesome. Fortunately, he does not sing (Shatner that is). You'll have to check out his 2004 Folds-produced album, Has Been, for that treat.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I loved Has Been. The concept of Ben Folds collaborating with Shatner sounds stupid at first but it really works.

I don't think it's accurate, however, to say that Shatner sings on the album. He does the same Shatner-speak that he displays in the song you've posted.

It is seemless. Mocking Music's expert graphic artists are behind great works such as that.

yes, you certainly have one crack graphics department. :)

I like to earn rappelz rupees, because it is very interesting. I think if you meet the rappelz gold, you will like it too. And when you play the game well you can get some cheap rappelz rupees as the rewards from the game. As long as you have a lot of rappelz money in the game you will be strong, and you can go to buy rupees with the other players.
