Jesse Keeler is best known as the bassist, keyboardist, and vocalist for the ass kicking rock duo, Death from Above 1979. Keeler is also making a name for himself as a producer and remixer, having already worked with bands like Magneta Lane, Buck 65, and Metric. Keeler, with his buddy Al Puodziukas (APZ), owns his own studio in Toronto, oh-so-cleverly dubbed MSTRKRFT (yes, pronounced Mastercraft). Together, Keeler and Puodziukas are . . . MSTRKRFT. I'm not clear on whether they're named after their studio or vice versa or, for that matter, if it really makes any difference. A lot of remixers are used to beef up the radio-appeal of a given song, but apparently not MSTRKRFT. Keeler explains, Sometimes, I'm confused when people are taking to us about remixes because I realize that that's maybe what they're asking us to do (remix for radio) and I don't really know if we know how to do that. Right now, I'm just keeping things cool because that's something we do more naturally. That probably sounds pretty arrogant. (Our remixes are) much more dance-oriented. The latest release by MSTRKRFT comes out in two days on January 6th. It's a single for their track "Easy Love" which also includes a remix of Metric's single, "Monster Hospital". Also, I've been watching the movie, Malibu Express, while typing up this post. The movie may be the greatest thing ever made. Really.
