Lazy Sunday Post

Casey Dorrell

I can't imagine many people with an internet connection haven't seen this video. Still, the combined facts I'm presented with today are that it's Sunday and I'm too lazy to post anything substantial, and that makes for a pretty good segue to . . . the Lazy Sunday SNL skit.

Lazy Sunday is a music video that aired on Saturday Night Live about two months ago with Chris Parnell and Andy Samerg. The weird thing about it, given that it aired on SNL, is that it's funny. It's clearly a parody, though it's less clear what's being parodied. Narnia, rap, pop-culture? I'm not really sure. Regardless, it's entertaining and, more surprisingly, musically pleasing too. Think early Beastie Boys.

What's interesting now, two months after the original video, is how many parodies and remakes of Lazy Sunday continue to surface. The original video detailed two guys getting ready for a matinee showing of Chronicles of Narnia - the remakes feature the same, but with teenaged girls, little boys, East-Indian muslims, and on, and on. What they all have in common is that they're all completely unneccesary and range from not terribly funny to plain terrible.

Download the original as an mp3 if you haven't already. Watch the video. And if you're really bored and, ideally, masochistic, check out all the new videos you've managed to avoid.
